Last Friday Night

Last Friday night began like most others: we all sat around and wondered what we should do with our night. Last Friday happened to be Friday, September 13th. The local movie theatre, the Guthrie, was showing a scary movie. If you know me, I don’t do scary movies. Ever. So my friend Emily and I decided to stick around and not go out to dinner and see it with the rest of our friends. We went to dinner at Hicks Cafeteria (pretty much gourmet) and then came back to my room. We decided to Google “Things to do in Grove City, Pennsylvania.” The first thing that came up was an Urban Dictionary definition of the surrounding town and then one about the college itself. Needless to say it was pretty hateful. And it got me thinking about society’s opinions of me and my peers here. So I figured I’d write a post about my Friday night and you all can judge for yourself.
Emily and I walked to the local Save A Lot, a cheap grocery store in town, and bought cookie dough and oreos. We walked back to campus and met up with a group of guys we’ve been hanging out with from out Brother Hall (halls are paired together for events). We were going to make these wicked chocolate chip cookies with oreos in the middle, but someone rented out the kitchen in our building for FIVE HOURS. So then we decided that watching Despicable Me would be a better use of our time than waiting for the oven. That movie never gets old.

We walked to a different kitchen after that, with still no luck on the oven front. We went back to the first kitchen and the oven was open. So we put the cookies in the oven, and play a couple of rounds of Round Robin ping pong. Then my friend Emily and I decide it was time to learn the handshake from the Parent Trap.

We’re pretty much pros at it now. And then the cookies were ready and we sat around and talked over warm chocolate chip-oreo cookies. Our friends came back from the movie in town and we all hung out. It was a really fun Friday night. Granted, it is not a typical college Friday night. But Grove City isn’t the typical college. After being consumed with our classes all week and not getting even close to the amount of sleep we need, that kind of Friday night is perfect. And while people might think we’re weird or don’t have any fun, we all love the time we spend here and all the things we do. Don’t knock it til you’ve tried it, y’all. I hope this post shed some light in a mildly funny way on the hopping night life here in the ever lovely Grove City, PA. I hope you all have a fantastic week. Til we meet again…
